The 4th Integrity Forum on “corruption and combating, probity and advocating” hosted by academic department of AU, law school successfully held in the 10th ladder classroom, Wu dong Road at 18:30, Nov 14th, 2016. We had the honor to invite professor Zeng jian of Shufe law school, awarded as one of Shanghai’s top ten most popular professors, to introduce some problems about anti-corruption, popularize the causes of corruption and the knowledge of current construction for clean government. All seats had been occupied which showed students’ great enthusiasm before the lecture started.
It came to the first part after the introduction about Professor Zeng and the topic of this activity by host Li pu. Ms Zeng divided the lecture into four parts, which were the causes and types of corruption, the thinking and system of corruption, the connotation and construction of incorrupt government, and the mechanism and operation of incorrupt government. Besides, combined with abundant examples both domestic and abroad such as corruption under the autocratic system of Ming dynasty, urban corruption in the New Deal of Roosevelt and the achievements of clean government in Hongkong and Singapore, professor Zeng specifically stated the status of anti-corruption in China and the constructive way of clean government mechanism.
When inferring to high salary for clean government policy, Professor Zeng compared the present policies in Singapore, Philippines, Japan, India and other countries which raised the students’ thinking. She further proposed that high salary was not certainly to keep probity and systems as support was indispensable. And taking the national condition into account, it remained a question that how a system could really play a role in continuously promoting China's anti-corruption work.
Due to the relaxing and interesting speech style as well as the detailed content, our classmates seriously participated in the activity and enjoyed the harmonious atmosphere. The speech was ended up with the determination from the central authority that any corruption would not be tolerated. After that, Professor Zeng patiently answered the questions after showing the determination which further deepened the topic of this lecture. At last, host summed up the lecture and expressed gratitude to all guests on behalf of the academic department. The lecture finally ended in the applause. And some students waited to discuss with Profess Zeng again because of the insufficient time in Q&A part.
This activity lasted two hours, spreading the knowledge of incorruption in China, discussing the connections between thought of law and construction of incorruption system. Moreover, it offered an opportunity for students to get close to political events and understand our national conditions. And the knowledgeable image of Professor Zeng was deeply rooted among students. We believed that the understanding about anti-corruption would been improved and students could think independently and come up with new standpoints for themselves.
