January 30th, 2016 at Washington D.C. time, the teacher and students who joined SUFE 2016 “ESTAR” Overseas Internship Program on American Legal System successfully arrived at the terminal station of this trip---NYC.

After a day’s break, they started internship in Eastern NY Federal Bankruptcy Court and Eastern NY Federal District Court. The judges who gave the students guidance are: Judge Elizabeth S.Stong from Eastern NY Federal Bankruptcy Court, Judge Marilyn Go and Judge Pamela Chen from Eastern NY Federal District Court. During the one-week internship, the members of program got a deeper knowledge of Court’s operating mechanism, received site instruction from judges and experienced the difference of jurisdiction and judges under the parallel political and judicial system of U.S. They attended trial on different types of cases includes bankruptcy case, criminal case, civil case and mediation etc. What’s more, they also participated in some meaningful programs like watching jurisprudential movie, knowing about ATI(Alternative to Imprisonment), having Pro Bono Lunch and viewing naturalization ceremony.

February 5th, 2016, this overseas internship program came to a successful end with students saying goodbye to those respectable judges. Not only did the program help students knowing more about American legal system, but also promoted their personal legal accomplishment and legal occupational skills. Sincerely hope there will be more and more overseas internship programs which can bring benefits to more students and facilitate school’s goal of elite education!
