The Final of “King& Wood Cup” Challenge

In order to enrich law schools’ activities in Yangtze River Delta Area, improve law school students’ comprehensive quality and market competitiveness as future legal talents, King& Wood Mallesons (Shanghai) hold “King& Wood Cup—Future Star of Legal Elites” challenge activity. This competition involves students from eight universities in Yangtze River Delta Area. 140 teams consists of 800 people from Shanghai University of Finance & Economics, Fudan University, East China University of Political Science and Law, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai University of International Business & Economics, Shanghai International Studies University, Zhejiang University and Nanjing University signed up for this competition.

After the first written review, four teams of our school advanced to top 4 of SHUFE. They are: Qi Xing Zhi Yuan (Lin Kunbin, Chen Yihua, Xu Mi, Fan Wenting, Zhang Yiqian, Zou Chao), Cool & Professional (Wang Xuerui, Zhang Hongye, Yu Wenting, Zhang Jing, Gao Luyang, Huang Yingkai), Peacemaker (Qian Mengdie, Zhu Lanxin, Li Chang, Yuan Yue, Weng Jianchao, Chen Jiangyan) and Shufe ADR I (Gu Bochao, Liang Dan, Zhu Shengting, Gao Zhaohan, Qiao Ya, Han Hongye).

In the afternoon of 12th May, the quarter-final of SHUFE zone was held in Terrace Classroom 8th, Wudong Campus. American Oregon system was adopted in this competition. The judges were two partners from King& Wood Mallesons (Shanghai), Associate Professor Zeng Jian and Instructor Fan Jian from SUFE Law School. After intense debating competition, the partners from King& Wood Mallesons (Shanghai) gave comments to each team’s excellent performance and expressed their wishes to have in-depth exchange with SUFE. The team named Qi Xing Zhi Yuan gained strong reviews from judges and finally advanced to finals as the representative of our school.

On 16th May, the final was held in Law School of Fudan University. Eight teams from eight schools contended for the champion. The final was divided into two parts—personal speech and moot court. In the morning, every team member gave an impromptu speech according to the topic they chose. The top one of each team had the opportunity to participate in moot court competition. All the team members from our school gave an excellent and steady performance, among whom Chen Yihua was selected to participate in the afternoon’s part because of his good command of legal knowledge and impressive performance. During lunch break, all the other team members cooperated to help Chen Yihua analyze the case, make legal research and prepare relevant evidence. Ultimately, Chen Yihua was highly praised by the chief judge and other teams.

After intense competition, Team Qi Xing Zhi Yuan harvested the fifth prize. The vice-president of SHUFE Law School awarded the prize for our team in person. In recent years, SHUFE Law School always appeals to communicate with other schools and enhance practical teaching. In the future we will take a more active part in organization and participation of these activities, promoting good relationship with other schools and universities.
