On Dec. 17th, 2014, staff and students of SHUFE Law paid a short visit to Shanghai Arbitration Commission and attended an academic seminar. Both parties had a wide discussion on the topic of academic research cooperation, expansion of international exchange, and the founding of internship base. SHUFE LAW and Shanghai Arbitration Commission have common interests in legal research and other academic areas; therefore, they reached multiple consensuses.

 

 

Initiated by SHUFE Law Free Trade & ADR Development Research Center, deputy General Secretary and chief of No.1 Arbitration Department of Shanghai Arbitration Commission, vice Dean of Shanghai Court of Financial Arbitration, Lu Chunwei, Assistant to Dean of SHUFE LAW, associate professor Hu Lin, Executive Director of SHUFE Law Free Trade & ADR Development Research Center, Dr. Shang Shu, associate professor Ye Wenping and two student representatives of ADR Club.

   

During the seminar, deputy General Secretary of Shanghai Arbitration Commission, Lu Chunwei started his speech with an introduction of the basic structure and development profile of Shanghai Arbitration Commission. He denoted that Shanghai Arbitration Commission has accomplished greater public praise with its independent, justified, professional and high-efficient arbitration practices which developed rapidly. He also expressed the willingness of Shanghai Arbitration Commission to cooperate with universities and colleges to strengthen the influence of arbitration. Assistant to dean, associate professor Hu Lin gave a brief introduction of features of education programs of graduate students, postgraduate students, L.L.M., common law certificate program and all-English Ph. D program. At the meantime, he expressed SHUFE Law’s willingness to cooperate with Shanghai Arbitration Commission in the expansion of international exchange which gained support from Deputy General Secretary Lu Chunwei. Associate professor Ye Wenping talked about other cooperation ways in the level of the combination of academic studies and practices. Finally, Dong Wenxin and Zhang Hongye, the two student representatives of ADR Club expressed their wishes to participate in arbitration practice in their experience of arbitration completion.

 

 

Shanghai Arbitration Commission was a standing body which founded based on the Arbitration Law of PRC. The Commission is constitute with 12 famous experts from legal and economic areas. Shanghai Arbitration Commission invited 763 elites from different areas as arbitrator. Since the founding of Sep. 18th, 1995, Shanghai Arbitration Commission had handled 14,000 business conflicts which involved 30 million RMB in the fields of real estate, construction projects, corporation, finance, intellectual property, maritime affairs, Sino-foreign joint venture and international trade.

 

Both parties conclude a common agreement and expressed the willingness of future cooperation. This seminar ended in a harmonious atmosphere.
