On Nov. 5, 2014, Professor Song Xiaoyan of Law School delivered a lecture named The Legal Boundary of Internet Finance by Student Union’s inviting. Prof. Song is one of the Most Popular Teacher in SHUFE, and there was no empty seat in the Lecture Hall.
Firstly, Prof. Song led us to define the “Internet Finance” by ourselves with our familiar conceptions. She said that Internet Finance is a kind of newly developing finance which is supported by internet tools such as cloud computing, payment, social networking, etc. Prof. Song pointed out that Crowd-funding is one form of the internet finance. Crowd-funding includes four types, namely, equity-based crowd-funding, lending-based crowd-funding, donate-based crowd-funding and reward-based crowd-funding. P2P, a manifestation of crowd-funding, which we are familiar with is the abbreviation of the Peer-to-Peer.
She said that there are a lot of flaws and blanks in our financial policies. It is harsh for internet finance to develop longer. Since the integrated economic environment supports greatly to the traditional financial industry, the only way for these P2P enterprises is to focus on innovation though internet technology.
In Song’s opinion, interior P2P in is not P2P in its true sense. It’s much like the mixture of P2P and P2B, because there are more companies than individual consumer in this field. One of the biggest issues of P2P is how to control the risk from borrower. It’s hard to censor the credit of small scale companies. What’s more, she said that it is vital for internet finance industry to build the digital loan censor system. Moreover, big data is difficult to maintain. Without big data, it’s not easy to analyze the lenders and borrowers behaviors.
Actually, there are still numerous advantages of P2P. For instance, it creates the popular finance. With a handful of idle money, ordinary consumer can lend it to the small business. The interest rate of these companies is often higher than bank interest rate. However, she is also worried that if the relevant department cannot regulate them well, it’s easily to commit crime. After the lecture, Professor Song answered questions of students patiently.
