Professor Wang Shuyi Gave a Lecture at the 2014 SHUFE LAW School Forum

On the night of 29th, September 2014, the eighth lecture of law forum in SHUFE has been successfully held. Professor Wang Shuyi, the full-time distinguished professor in SHUFE Law School, the vice chairmen of China Environment and Resource Law Research Committee, and the co-director of Center of Cooperative Innovation for Judicial Civilization lectured to the scholars and students on the topic of “Beautiful China and law-guaranty of ecological civilization construction”. The whole lecture was hosted by Professor Ma Hong, the deputy dean of SHUFE Law School.

Professor Wang put forward the noble concept of “beautiful China” at the very beginning, and defined it from the dimensions of it meaning, basic symbols and the quantitative indexes and then pointed out the significance of “beautiful China” as well as fundamental approaches to the construction of “beautiful China”. In this part, attendees got the concept from the perspectives of environment law for the first time. Base on that, during the second part, the professor clarify the relationship between the concept of “beautiful China” and construction of ecological civilization that the construction of ecological civilization is the fundamental approach to accomplish “beautiful China” while such “beautiful China” is the grand vision, object and motivation. Furthermore, he profoundly analyzed the fundamental meaning, characteristics, contend and primary objects of ecological civilization construction and the whole process of proposing the policy of ecological civilization. Also he emphasized the theory of ecological civilization, featuring harmony between human and nature, harmonious co-development of society and the nature and sustainable development of economy, society and the natural environment.

In the third part, Professor Wang put his focus on the environmental protection, holding that environmental protection is the main battlefield of constructing ecological civilization, which is the internal requirement for its essential goal and demand for its the ultimate destination, meeting the actual national conditions and beneficial to advance the mode transformation of national economy development. In this part, he mainly disclosed the current environmental problem in china in detail from the perspectives of environment pollution and resources scarcity, leaving a forceful impression on students, realizing the urgency and necessity of environment protection. Moreover, he mentioned the ties between environment protection and society stability, proposing his approaches to resolve the environmental issues. The last part was titled “strengthening of ecological law construction”, setting the basic connotation of ecological law, listing the principal environment laws presented and to be established and systematically stating the environmental law system.

Last, Professor Wang appealed everyone altogether dedicate oneself to realizing the concept of “beautiful China” on the basis of the most strict law system of environment protection, with the strict enforcement of the environmental laws and investigation of accountability on the violation of laws. The whole lecture successfully finished with the extravagant applause.
