Professor Sun Youhai gave a lecture at the 2014 SHUFE Law School Forum

On September 27, 2014, 2014 SHUFE Law School Forum held successfully in SHUFE. The Distinguished Professor of SHUFE Law School, the vice president of China Association for Environment and Resources Law (CAERL), Professor Sun Youhai delivered a lecture named “the highlighted problem and countermeasure environmental trials confront at present”. The lecture was hosted by vice Dean of SHUFE Law School, Professor Yang Feng.

Professor Sun Youhai started with the hottest environmental issue at present. He illustrated few instances to present the basic status of China’s environmental problems. The Professor Sun also analyzed and interpreted increasing mass incidents and petition letters involved environmental issues in recent years. Then he pointed out that the special judicial agency was necessary. Around the trials of environmental issues, Professor Sun Youhai showed the biggest problem in practice—more and more environment courts were established around the county, but the environmental cases were still few. In the following time, Professor Sun explained why the phenomenon existed, and also pointed out out-of-court settlements were very popular among the people. Interfering of local government and unreasonable division of court were important reasons as well. Professor Sun offered eight solutions for the problem, and explained them to the audience.

Towards the end of his lecture, Professor Sun interacted with students by answering questions raised deepening their understanding of his opinions and theories. The lecture ended in warm applause of all teachers and students attending.
