Wei Luo, Lecturer in Law and Director of Technical Services in the Law Library of Washington University in St. Louis, delivered a lecture on legal retrieval and studying abroad tips on March 3, 2014.

The first part of the speech was about applying database to law studying, which was regarded as one part of legal research basics. Mr. Luo emphasized the significance of secondary sources such as legal textbooks, legal periodicals and monographs. To search for a specific case as reference, Mr. Luo mentioned, it was crucial to figure out which factor is really important and find key points of the legal documents. In the most of times the document is so long that we students have to use particular methods to brief it, narrow down the facts and widen the main idea.
Then, Mr. Luo made a brief introduction to Washington University and its law school. The law school’s Master of Laws (LL.M.) Program in U.S. Law is for those who want to increase their knowledge of common law to better operate in today’s global environment.
At the end of the lecture, students present exchanged their own opinions with Mr. Luo and some of them asked questions about the LL.M. and PhD program in the USA. It turned out to be a successful meeting. We are looking forward to educating more law students who have an international field of vision.
