The 12th Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was successfully held in East China University of Politics and Law, in Shanghai, from Feb. 18th_21st, 2014. SHUFE Law School sent a team of five to participate in the competition and won the second prize finally.
The Jessup Team, led by Zou Wen, and with the rest of the members including Rao Jue, Gao Lan, Yang Wanggege and Shenjin, participated in the oral advocacy rounds. Jessup is the largest moot court competition with the honor of the “Olympic Game” of international law. It not only offers the law students a means to enhance the sense of community among the world’s lawyer, but also provides an invaluable tool to develop legal writing and oral advocacy skills, team work and substantive knowledge of international law. In the 12th China Jessup national round, 41 universities in total participated it this year. Teams should prepare oral and written pleadings arguing the applicant and respondent positions of the case.
During the oral competition, our school team competed with Beijing Foreign Studies University, China Youth University for Political Science and etc. By making use of knowledge of international law and English oral advocacy skills, SHUFE Jessup Team showed masterful performance in the competition and won the second prize finally. One of the team members said “the Jessup Competition is an excellent training ground for law students. It provides a challenging intellectual experience. Although it is hard for a non-native English speaker to argue, it is more impressive to find so many students in China good at it. I learned a great deal from the preparingprocess from the international law knowledge, legal writing and oral advocacy and I cannot recommend the Jessup experience enough.”
