On October 21st, 2013, Professor Razeen Sappideen coming from the law school of University of Western Sydney successfully delivered a lecture on the theme “Corporate Governance, Executive Compensation, and the Agency Problem in China: An Outsider’s Perspective”. A/Prof. Song Xiaoyan from SHUFE Law presided over the lecture.

At the beginning, Professor Sappideen presented the governance model of state-owned enterprises based on the concepts of Chinese state-owned enterprises, corporation and privatization. To make it more specific, the lecture described the three landmark developments in the management structure of Chinese corporations as well as the situation of four kinds of stocks in China. Meanwhile, he didn’t forget to stress the issue of management shareholders and substantial shareholders. To introduce the payment for senior managers, he focused on three aspects: the payment structure of management shareholders, three stages in the measures to pay Chinese executives and the development of executives’ payment after 1988. Last but not least, great importance was attached to the measures adopted by non-state enterprises and the national government in solving agency problems.

The lecture achieved a complete success. All the students and professors in SHUFE law gave a warm applause to thank Professor Razeen Sappideen.
