In the IP Law class of April 26, 2013, SHUFE Law sophomores made a wonderful presentation about the World Intellectual Property Day, which is observed on April 26 every year in order to promote discussion of the role of intellectual property in encouraging innovation and creativity. The theme of this year’s World IP Day is Creativity: the Next Generation.
How does the World IP Day began? This can be traced back to April 26, 1970 when the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Convention came into force. WIPO’s member states designated this day as World IP Day with the aim of increasing general understanding of IP. Since then, Word IP Day has offered a unique opportunity each year to join with others around the globe to discuss and demonstrate how IP works to contribute to the flourishing of music and the arts and to driving the technological innovation that helps shape our world.
Wearing light green T-shirts and read hats, the presentation group gave the audience an introduction of World Intellectual Property Day and the IPR Protection Week at first. Then they focused on the judicial operations in protection of intellectual property rights. After that, they showed related dates in 2012, which marked the increasing of new intellectual property-related civil, administrative and criminal cases of first instance.

After the general introduction of the new constitution, they showed the top ten cases, top ten innovation cases and 50 classic cases to explain their opinions. One of the most important cases must be mentioned was the copyright dispute between Beijing Baidu Webex Technology Co., Ltd. and Han Han. They explained it in detail, followed by providing relevant articles about IP law and pointing out the significance.
The three members of the group really gave a impressive presentation to the class with beautiful timing. Without doubt, it will help students deepen their understanding of the IPR and IP law as well.
