Hosted by Elaine, a postgraduate of SHUFE Law, the third Jessup Training was held successfully at the 4th floor of SHUFE Library on April 4th. As customary, A/Professor Tang Guanhong was present at the training and she invited Tan Dandan from SHUFE Library to gave a technical lecture on how to do legal research.

Unlike previous courses, this time the training was divided into two sections which were about legal research skills and recitation, enlightening the potential Jessupers a lot. In the first part, Tan Dandan, the Librarian of SHUFE Library , gave a lecture about library resources. In a very detailed way, she showed the audience how to use Westlaw and Heinonline, the two world famous database, and how to find the information needed by looking up keywords or cases. Tips that Miss Tan taught us like adding “TI” before the title and “CI” before the citation number of a case really broadened the everyone’s mind. Sissi Chen, the former Jessuper of SHUFE Law, shared with others her own experience that these tips made her legal research much more efficient. After Tan’s lecture, Jessupers gained a clearer road map of library resources and they thanked Miss Tan’s support by giving her warm applauds .

After the first section, all the Jessupers participated in the second round: recitation. One after another, they passionately read Matin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream”, as well as a soft poem named “When You Are Old” with their tenderest feeling. After the poem-reading section, A/Professor Tang delivered comments and emphasized on the importance of recitation. She maintained that “when one is trying to recit the poem, he or she will understand it and feel the key points. By recitation we can control our feelings and emotion, and finally become persuasive.”

The Jessup warming up training ended in a really warm atmosphere. This team wouldn’t be so successful without everyone’s effort and the committee’s work. By making progress day by day, the SHUFE Law Jessup team will surely have a bright future.
