On Dec. 20th, 2012 Consumer Protection Law Seminar was successfully held in SHUFE Law. Focusing on the study of imparity clauses, this year’s seminar was hosted by Consumer Protection Law Association of Shanghai Law Society, and organized by SHUFE Law. Over seventy experts, scholars and SHUFE Law students were present at the seminar, including Vice-President of SHUFE Zhou Zhongfei, Former Vice-President of the Supreme People’s Court Li Luoguang, and President of Consumer Protection Law Association and SHUFE Law Dean Professor Zhen Shaohua.
During the opening ceremony hosted by CCP Secretary A/Professor Zhou Jiepu, Vice-President of SHUFE Zhou Zhongfei delivered welcoming remarks, appreciating the participants’ full support to SHUFE Law and this seminar. Then, Former Vice-President of the Supreme People’s Court Li Luoguang and Director of Shanhai Law Society Research Department Chen Donghu addressed the meeting respectively, analyzing the existing problems in terms of consumer protection, reviewing the development since the seminar was initiated last year, and recognizing the value of this annual meeting.
The seminar was divided into two sections. In the first round of discussion, Zhu Wei from Shanghai Consumers’ Rights Protection Committee gave a speech titled “the Criteria for Determining Imparity Clauses”, while Professor Wang Xianlin from KoGuan Law School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University shared with the audience his view on law enforcement authority of imparity clauses. Hosted by Professor Wang Shiru from SHUFE Law, the second section centered around the determination of imparity clauses in fields of real estate and insurance. In the heated discussion, participants showed great enthusiasm and innovation towards the topic and examined imparity clauses from both macroscopic and microcosmic aspects.
When the discussions concluded, Professor Xu Lanbo, the Vice-President of the Consumer Protection Association made a summary, pointing out some issues for further consideration including the regulation, determination criteria, handling and recording of imparity clauses. At the end, Dean Professor Zhen Shaohua delivered a closing speech, expressing his gratitude to all the experts and scholars present at the seminar.
